A Grain of Salt

Don't forget to take everything these prestigious judges say with a grain of salt as there is no formal training for these folks, policies, or procedures. Just a few guidelines by which to vote by!

Neat backlit effect!  But traditional style pumpkins just don’t do it for me anymore.

Looked like a basic face to me until a second round a few hours later (a round of pumpkin viewing, not of booze). Then I realized it is pretty cleaver, what with the alcohol brewing in the front and the evilness in the back.

a proper pumpkin

Huh!?  Can’t make heads or tails of this one.  Penis in a canoe?  Penis downhill skiing?

Is that skier about to bomb into burning shards of rock? Yeah, that would hurt.

love the smoke coming out--very creative carving, good use of layers

Clever!  Best interpretation of disaster brewing and bonus points for the smoke.
The smoke is what makes this impressive. But I feel like it is all disaster and no brew.
Liked the "steam" and the foamy mixture in pumpkins #3 and 5 but not sure of the "toothpick only" rule and its application to these entries.
volcano #3....reminds me of school science experiments.
#4
Creative entry, I’m just not sure it’s a disaster...a scarcity of pumpkins isn’t quite up there with a hurricane, tornado, etc.  Consult a dictionary next year.

This makes me think of black Friday and how crazy people will get in the states when they don't get their precious new items one day after being thankful for what they already have. Negative points for depressing this judge.

My third place vote is for the sold out pumpkins #4

#5
like the different take on the theme...well executed!

Not bad, I might have been tempted to vote if you provided photos of yourself actually drinking it.

Is this a legal entry since a butternut squash was used instead of a pumpkin? I would award extra points if I found out that the carver drank this after taking the picture.

I liked the gross brew on #5....but don't think it is a pumpkin....isn't that part of the rules?

#6
Witty!  Makes me think of Stephen Harper, who is a disaster brewing.  Well done!

Shudder

#7
great carving and use of light--really does look like a cauldron and the eyes do a great job conveying that he/she thinks she's in big trouble)

Another clever entry and good job with the lighting.

Very cute

just so darn cute

My second place vote is for the pumpkin in the cauldron #7

#8
Another political entry, I guess this group of pumpkin carvers aren’t conservatives...who voted that idiot in anyway?!

I like the lighting in this one.

#9
For making me hum ACDC, you get bonus points...and maybe a vote.

Nice glow. Simple, yet powerful (no pun intended)

#10
Huh!?  What is that thing falling on the pig and penguin?  But more importantly, if they mate is the offspring a piguin or penig?

Negative 345 points for putting penguins and polar bears together; they don't live in the same hemisphere. Otherwise, I might have given this one first place.

intricate detail and I like the "waves"  In fact had there not been an underlaying message I would probably have given this #2.

Wowsers that plane is huge....oh, it’s not to scale?  Fail.

Heh heh
