Hi guys,
As promised, here are the results from last year. Seeing as Halloween is tomorrow I guess I can't wait any longer 😝 This year will be better - promise. Hope you haven't given up on us and looking forward to this year's entries!
I have a slight problem though because what I got from Sarah was pumpkins with letters but no names so if you happen to look here and recognize your pumpkin as a winner please write me and let me know who you are! (leanne.ashworth@gmail.com)
#1: Pumpkin X (34 points)
#2: Pumpkin H (30 points)
#3: Pumpkins J + P (tied with 17 points)
I will claim Pumpkin X but am afraid I don't know who did H, J or P but congratulate yourselves!!
And now my favourite part of this competition - comments from our judges. Thanks to all of you who participated.
Given the theme, I was really hoping to see Trump's face on a pumpkin or at least the QAnon logo!
This year was huge for competitors. Difficult to choose just three. I decided to ignore artistic merit and instead focus on the ones that may haunt my dreams.
A I really like this one. the detail is amazing!
I would not want to meet up with this creature anytime! Amazing detail right down to the claws.
Love this dragon. Paperbag princesses beware!
B Looks like my chickens with a digging spade trying to get free from their cage! Scary!
C A classic. Frightful fangs!
D I happen to have a soft spot for spiders so I quite like this one :) But it's not too scary so I guess I can't give it top marks.
E Another classic. Creative fangs here!
F Ooh, scary two-faced pumpkin!
G I like the creativity. It looks like a skull on a guitar about to be burned. Spooky!
H Different take on the theme but very effective. Definitely captured the scary vibe! I like it!
quintessential "Boo" to scare everyone!
Who are you gonna call?? GHOSTBUSTERS! Really neat way of presenting the arms. Top points!
I Bats! I also have a soft spot for bats, so I like this one but it does not check the scary box.
J I feel like this one belongs in a horror film!
that mouth is one of the scariest I’ve ever seen! I believe I could lose a finger if I had it too close!
Yikes! Don't get your hand too close to this people eater!
K Neat! Looks like a graffiti style pumpkin. Is there a hidden message in that mouth?
L Oh boy! That pumpkin looks about how I feel sometimes after a long week... scary!
M Whoa! Neat effect! I like this one a lot. Mummies are definitely scary! Top marks!
N I really wouldn't want to bump into him when I'm out trick or treating!
Looks like lady pinocchio. That long nose suggests a scary liar!
O Living in Denmark and seeing our absolute most dangerous animal I'm scared. I'm so scared of this animal that I have on more than one occasion considered stealing our dogs tick collars.
Another spider! I like the design of this one a lot, but as said earlier, this particular judge refuses to count spiders as scary :)
P wow! amazing carving skills!
love that it's white and has excellent teeth detail, scary looking skeleton skull
This pumpkin would have made it to the top of the podium if the light settings and surroundings had been just a little more scary.
EEEWW. There's something scary about mutant pigment-free pumpkins. Good effect.
Q Yikes! He swallowed a flame!
R Kinda like zombie eyes on that one. Spooky!
S Creative! I like the style of this one. Maybe this could be submitted as a Flaming Lips album cover!
T Ooh, neat effect with the angry eyebrows!
U Wow, what detail! Great artsman-ship.
V The two-toned nose adds a lot to this classic pumpkin. Neat effect.
W Ooh, I like it's cross-eyed effect!
X the fangs and teeth on this fire blowing creature is super scary! Excellent carving.
This pumpkin is by far the most beautiful pumpkin this year. Carving, light, picture everything is perfect, but it's not really scary so sorry no vote. I will however say that if I should ever decide to get a tattoo I would go to the artist who made this pumpkin (I hope the artist in that case will have other tools than knife and toothpicks)
Wow! What amazing design of this fire-breathing dragon! Top marks.
Y nice use of layering!
I don't know how much inspiration the carver had from Edvard Munch's The Scream, but anyway I'm scared all the way up to a third place.
Ooh! Death by sunshine! Sunburns are scary for sure.
Z it's all in the eyes!
Classic line up of pumpkins here. That looks like a great home for trick-or-treating!
AA Ooh. neat! Looks like pumpkins waiting in line, maybe for execution??? scary!
