The Ballots are Counted...
Authored by the lovely Leanne this year!
I am going to resist the urge to apologize for the late results. Anyone who has been part of this for even a couple years knows that’s how we work!
Before we get to announcing the winner though, thank you to everyone for carving and voting again. This is the highlight of my Halloween every year. It was a very close race and it came down to the last votes (partly why this takes so long because we had to wait for all the judges and get a couple replacements! Love you guys anyway). Some of the kids were getting votes too – nicely done guys!!
Just to drag out the suspense – a funny interlude before announcing the winner. For our own amusement, we started tallying family totals now that the kids were included with the adults. Sarah insisted that only families living at the same address should be counted together – something about it not being fair if my family had 5 entries (Me, our kids and my then quarantined Mom and Dad). Here is the outcome:
Ashworth-Nielsen:
39 points
Ashworth: 30 points
Taylors: 17 points
Pumpkins carved at Sarah’s house: 12 points
Alright, here it comes – this year’s
results:

Pumpkin #2: Rebecca (age 5) |

Pumpkin #10: Vivian |

Pumpkin #5: Mel T |

And the 2020 Winners, with a beautiful Picasso and 34 points... Meg + Tadhg!!
Congratulations Guys! To wrap this up, some nice and some funny
comments from the judges. Stay safe everyone and see you at the same time next
year!
It's another tough
judging year, soooooo many amazing pumpkins.
Pumpkin 1
Love
the creative use of the cut out pieces as hair and ears!
Pumpkin 2
Super spooky!
I’m
not sure why, but it speaks to me. Not literally of course. All it can
manage is some subtle Morse code by rolling by around a bit (no throat). But we
can understand each other.
Pumpkin 3
Very Picasso! Love
the different carving techniques!
Actually
it was my better half who said it should be the winner and I'm always
told I never listen to her. Maybe I do not now I have only ranked the pumpkin
as number 3.
Beautiful carving
of an angel seen from different angels at the same time (guess that is
cubism). We see her glory, wings and her.. no we see her glory and wings and in
these times we really need a guardian angel.
Pumpkin 4
Deconstructed
turkey? Very creative use of the theme!
Pumpkin 5
This is a work of
art! Beautiful!
Pumpkin 6
Scary!
Pumpkin 7
Picasso angel?
Pumpkin 8
Picasso ghost? Love
the leaning effect!
Pumpkin 9
Looks like
Frankenstein! Love it!
Pumpkin 10
Love the detail in
the fingers!
Pumpkin 11
Very cute
expression!
Pumpkin 12
Picasso Dracula!
Love the horns!
A
little bit halloween spooky and very much Picasso. Lighting used to get
the attention towards the absolute genius idea of tilting the pumpkin 90
degrees. Can that pumpkin be conserved for the posterity?
Pumpkin 13
Love the quirky
smile!
Pumpkin 14
Meow! Very
creative!
Pumpkin 15
Very cute unicorn!
Pumpkin 16
Looks like a
Picasso painting!
Pumpkin 17
Super sweet with
the heart eyes and mouth!
Pumpkin 18
A bit deranged,
love the face!
Pumpkin 19
Very Picasso and
great technique!
Pumpkin 20
Love the tooth. :)
There
is a sassy malevolence in the grin that I find very appealing. Simple but
effective.
Pumpkin 21
Beautiful! Looks
like a painting.
It
is Picasso, but the pumpkin "only" turns in second because I think we
are missing halloween and because it's very hard to beat a tilted
pumpkin.
Pumpkin 22
Love the techniques
and definitely looks like a Picasso!
And
taking hold the gold, platinum, etherium, whatever is valuable these days, is
number 22. The textures, the shading, the lighting, the attention to details,
all speak to someone with way too much time on their hands. Everyone loves an
obsessive and this is no exception.
The winner is not Pumkin 22, but the all in one
boar, bat, bear, shark, catfish, goat depiction deserves to be mentioned.
