Is Pumpkin #7 by Mel T., the poor little pumpkin who is being boiled alive!! I have to admit, this was my personal favorite and I think just nailed the theme, in addition to such clever use of the pumpkin! I know, I'm gushing, but I'm just so happy to see the trophy head back to Ontario to be set in a place of honour on those beautiful shelves of yours. Plus the Taylor's are dedicated carvers, and I am partial to dedicated carvers. Congrats Mel! Following close behind Mel's 54 points with 37 of her own was Sarah O and her deadly looking volcano! That was a spectacular idea, well executed within all of the traditional rules and use of an extinguished candle. Excellent dancing of the rules for a very dramatic effect. Sarah beats out her sister Lynn and partner Steve with their great TNT entry, the family rivalry continues! Third place this year goes to Leanne and her sold out pumpkin disaster! The drama of this true story must have come across the screen on this...

A Grain of Salt

Don't forget to take everything these prestigious judges say with a grain of salt as there is no formal training for these folks, policies, or procedures. Just a few guidelines by which to vote by! #1 Neat backlit effect!   But traditional style pumpkins just don’t do it for me anymore. Is that skier about to bomb into burning shards of rock? Yeah, that would hurt. #3 love the smoke coming out--very creative carving, good use of layers Clever!   Best interpretation of disaster brewing and bonus points for the smoke. The smoke is what makes this impressive. But I feel like it is all disaster and no brew. Liked the "steam" a...

Ok, So I'm not feeling terribly witty right now, it's late, I'm late, the post is late, the hockey season is late. Maybe that's it, maybe I miss the NHL? No, couldn't be that. But if you're suffering from withdrawl, here is a little competition to get your blood going! Disaster Brewing is the theme this year, and I think as usual people have found many different ways to interpret and incorporate the theme into their carving. An excellent group of carvings and I think everyone should be very proud of this year's crop of contestants! Final results will follow the confirmation of judge selection... Leanne and I need to put our heads together this weekend! Mark T. Shannon W. Sarah O. Leanne A-N Benny S. Marten (& Julie) Mel T. Janice A. Lynn and Steve Sarah W. Jaime B.
