Is Pumpkin #7 by Mel T., the poor little pumpkin who is being boiled alive!! I have to admit, this was my personal favorite and I think just nailed the theme, in addition to such clever use of the pumpkin! I know, I'm gushing, but I'm just so happy to see the trophy head back to Ontario to be set in a place of honour on those beautiful shelves of yours. Plus the Taylor's are dedicated carvers, and I am partial to dedicated carvers. Congrats Mel! Following close behind Mel's 54 points with 37 of her own was Sarah O and her deadly looking volcano! That was a spectacular idea, well executed within all of the traditional rules and use of an extinguished candle. Excellent dancing of the rules for a very dramatic effect. Sarah beats out her sister Lynn and partner Steve with their great TNT entry, the family rivalry continues! Third place this year goes to Leanne and her sold out pumpkin disaster! The drama of this true story must have come across the screen on this...

A Grain of Salt

Don't forget to take everything these prestigious judges say with a grain of salt as there is no formal training for these folks, policies, or procedures. Just a few guidelines by which to vote by! #1 Neat backlit effect!   But traditional style pumpkins just don’t do it for me anymore. Looked like a basic face to me until a second round a few hours later (a round of pumpkin viewing, not of booze). Then I realized it is pretty cleaver, what with the alcohol brewing in the front and the evilness in the back. a proper pumpkin #2 Huh!?   Can’t make heads or tails of this one.   Penis in a canoe?   Penis downhill skiing? Is that skier about to bomb into burning shards of rock? Yeah, that would hurt. #3 love the smoke coming out--very creative carving, good use of layers Clever!   Best interpretation of disaster brewing and bonus points for the smoke. The smoke is what makes this impressive. But I feel like it is all disaster and no brew. Liked the "steam" a...

Ok, So I'm not feeling terribly witty right now, it's late, I'm late, the post is late, the hockey season is late. Maybe that's it, maybe I miss the NHL? No, couldn't be that. But if you're suffering from withdrawl, here is a little competition to get your blood going! Disaster Brewing is the theme this year, and I think as usual people have found many different ways to interpret and incorporate the theme into their carving. An excellent group of carvings and I think everyone should be very proud of this year's crop of contestants! Final results will follow the confirmation of judge selection... Leanne and I need to put our heads together this weekend! Mark T. Shannon W. Sarah O. Leanne A-N Benny S. Marten (& Julie) Mel T. Janice A. Lynn and Steve Sarah W. Jaime B.

It's like the Hunger Games, only it's the Pumpkins that die.

Hey Folks, Sorry about the tardiness for the blog entry this year, but many of you heard through email that the theme for this year is... "Disaster Brewing" I'm pretty excited for the competition this year, I think we'll have more entries than ever, and at the very least a heightened level of enthusiasm, which can only result in an increase in traffic, and mass advertising on the blog next year - so look forward to that! RULES. Your design must be ORIGINAL. It is ok to get ideas from other people but you can't just copy someone else's directly and you definitely CANNOT USE A STENCIL...something about it has to be your own. You are only allowed to use 1 pumpkin (any shape you can find) and toothpicks are ok too, but no other decorations. You can use any carving tools you want. You may only send 1 picture of your pumpkin, (keep that in mind when carving) to Leanne or Sarah and we will send it out to the judging panel. To avoid anyone voting for ...
